Learning Guitar – The Challenges and Restrictions of Time

If you're like I used to be then I'm sure you dream of being able to play your favourite songs on the guitar. I had learned a little when I was younger, but not enough to consider myself good. By the time I was 20 or so I found myself wanting to improve my guitar playing, how ever I was strapped for time and was stubborn.

I wanted to learn guitar but I didn't want it to take so long. Friends that had taken private guitar lessons had told me that even after a couple of months of lessons they still felt as if they weren't really learning as much as they thought they should be.

This kind of scared me off of taking private lessons so I opted to use the web for free lessons for a while then later on purchased a dvd guitar lesson course (I'll discuss this in later posts).

Challenges Associated with Learning Guitar

The number one challenge in my opinion with learning to play the guitar is time.

Whether it's not having enough time to learn or practice. OR wishing it would take less time to become a good guitar player. Either way time is the issue here.

From my experience, if you're itching to learn to play guitar quickly then avoid private lessons unless you can afford to have more then one lesson a week. Using a self study program puts you in control of how much and when you're going to learn.

For instance if you have a guitar lessons dvd program you can watch two lessons a week and practice more if you have the time. This way you'll effectively be learning twice as fast.

What if your challenge is not enough time to learn?

IF you don't have enough time to take one private lesson a week and practice through out the week then a self study program is probably your best bet as well. When you're in control of how quickly or slowly you learn then you won't fall behind on your lessons.

Watching one lesson every two weeks might mean you don't learn as quickly as others, but none the less you'll still be learning and not wasting money on private lessons you don't have the time to practice for.
